A SPEEDER caught travelling at 106mph near a Fenland accident blackspot had suffered “a moment of madness,” he told a court.
Matthew Howard admitted smashing the 60 mph speed limit on the A 141 Straight Drove near Chatteris, and was banned from driving for 21 days.
Police had parked in a lay-by at Clews Corner, the site of previous fatal accidents, and used a hand held device to clock Howard’s speed as he travelled towards Chatteris on July 12.
He explained to Fenland magistrates: “All I can say it was a moment of madness. I don’t usually do things like that. I know there is no excuse for what I have done.”
The 23-year-old building worker of Mumbys Drove, Three Holes, was fined 150 and told to pay 35 costs and a 15 surcharge.
