Jordan Gill admitted he had no excuses after his world title hopes were dashed.

Gill was stopped in four rounds by former world champion Kiko Martinez in a European featherweight clash at Wembley Arena on October 29.

The Cambridgeshire featherweight was equal with Martinez in the first two rounds, but the Briton was down four times in the following six minutes.

Gill, whose title defence was also a world title eliminator, said his performance was below par against his latest opponent.

Writing on his Instagram page, he said: “[I] stepped up to world class against a world class fighter, and just wasn’t good enough on the night.

“I did everything I could in training and have no excuses.”

Gill added: “[I] got caught early and just didn’t recover; absolutely gutting to lose my European title.”

Martinez will now move onto a world title fight, most likely with IBF champion Josh Warrington.
