A local entrepreneur has set up a new bookstore just outside of Chatteris with everything from sci-fi to “ladies-on-the-bus" books.

Local Lisa Bill has opened up Lisa Bill’s Books at her home on the edge of Chatteris down London Road.

Originally, Lisa was selling right from her own house through Ebay and Facebook but now has a physical store after retrofitting her dogs grooming room into a small book store.

She began selling books after inheriting her father’s vast collection which, as I found, has books from as far back as 1964.

Lisa said: “My father collected books and they’re in such good condition it didn’t seem right to throw them out.

“I like books as well so I just couldn’t throw them away, it would be a waste.”

Alongside the books, which spill over into the house, the store also sells and rents out jigsaws.

“I haven’t really sold a great deal as it’s all new. It’s cost me a lot of money to set it all up so the money right now goes back to me but in future we want to start donating to local charities like the Christmas lights.

“Meeting the people is my favourite part, just chatting with the customers. It’s been lovely meeting and talking to people, it’s good that people are still reading."

The range of books in the shop is deceivingly extensive for its small size with science, nature, true crime and what Lisa lovingly calls “ladies-on-the-bus-books".

Lisa added: "I’d like to thank my husband for putting up with me, all my time researching and him helping me build it."

If you’d like to visit Lisa’s store and help support budding local business, Lisa Bill’s Books can be found at 132 London Road Chatteris.
