A council will pay tribute to a former councillor who served for more than 30 years.

Cyril Bellamy became a councillor when he joined Parson Drove and Wisbech St Mary Parish Council in 1978, serving as chairman from 1999 to 2005 and 2007-09.

He later joined Fenland District Council (FDC) for the aforementioned villages in 1999, becoming a member of the council's licensing and planning committee before resigning as a councillor in 2011.

Outside of council duties, Mr Bellamy started a boxing club in Parson Drove and helped set up the village's 200 Club.

He also helped create the existing playing field in the village, was involved in different community groups and was a member of Parson Drove Football Club.

Mr Bellamy died at Lyncroft Care Home in Wisbech on December 17 at the age of 88.

His family said he was a dedicated, hardworking councillor whose mantra was to always help others and his community.

FDC will hold a minute's silence for Mr Bellamy before its next full council meeting on February 20.
