A meals on wheels charity is expanding into the Fens – and is looking for commercial kitchen space to prepare their meals.

CAMMS is expanding into Chatteris, bringing affordable and nutritious hot meals to residents in the town and surrounding villages.

It recently received a grant from the Cambridgeshire Community Foundation and is looking to lease suitable premises to distribute the meals from.

Ideally, the space will be located in or near Chatteris, and will have small commercial kitchen facilities and car parking.

Charity manager Lynne Kindell said: “CAMMs already delivers over 200 meals a day to vulnerable people in and around Cambridge and since the pandemic demand for our services have grown considerably.

“We get a lot of interest from individuals and their families north of the city and due to travel times and keeping the meals hot it’s not possible to serve them from our current city-centre base.”

Meals will be distributed Monday to Friday from the Chatteris base.

They hope the new facilities will be up and running from the second half of 2023.

Lynne explained the kitchen premises will be used for between three and four hours in the morning.

They will need to store, heat and prepare the meals that drivers then take to customers.

When the two-course hot lunches are delivered to customers’ doors, it also means they also get some social contact with someone.

Lynne added: “Perhaps you have premises that are only used in the evenings or at the weekends that may be suitable for our use and I would encourage anyone who may be able help to get in touch.”

Anyone who would like to discuss suitable premises should ring the CAMMS office on 01223 314288 and ask to speak to Lynne directly.
