A Macmillan coffee morning in a Fenland village raised £1,110 for the cancer charity.

Cakes, teas, coffees, plants and bric-a-brac were sold at the fundraiser, which was held at Wimblington Village Hall.

Peter James, who organised the event with his wife Christine, said: "It was a tremendous community get together, and that's what people said most about it.

"Everybody helped and it all came together to make for a superb but knackering morning.”

"I’m absolutely amazed that we raised the amount of money that we did.

“We would like to say thanks to all the people who supplied the cakes because, without their help, we wouldn’t have achieved what we did.

“We also want to thank the three Macmillan ladies who attended the event, and the parish council who gave the hall for free and helped to get it ready."
