A relative of a March care home resident donated fidget pillows to help those living with dementia there.
Jill Fowler's husband, Michael, has been a resident at Aria Court for around six months, and is living with dementia.
Jill's commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of residents, particularly those facing dementia-related challenges, inspired her to channel her passion for crafts into a meaningful and practical contribution this Christmas.
The fidget pillows are carefully crafted with various elements, including a knitted toy, buttons and buttonholes, threads, and ribbons, each offering a different texture.
The mix of sensory components makes these pillows not only visually appealing but also a valuable tool for providing comfort and distraction to residents.
Selena Jalland, deputy hospitality care manager at Aria Court, said: “Residents living with dementia often experience moments of agitation or restlessness.
“Fidget pillows, with their tactile and visual elements, serve as a comforting and engaging tool.
“The diverse textures and colours can capture the attention of residents, providing a source of mental stimulation and enjoyment.
“The pillows can become a favourite belonging and act as a distraction tool for caregivers, redirecting the resident’s focus and preventing them from picking at their own clothing or becoming upset in some other way.
“We are extremely grateful to Jill for this thoughtful and beautiful donation.”
Selena had the delightful task of distributing the fidget pillows on Christmas Day.
She had taken the time to match each pillow to its recipient, whether based on colours or themes.
