Nationwide is reopening its branch in Whittlesey after it was forced to close because of a robbery which damaged the building.

The bank was targeted on October 28 last year at around 1.45am when ram raiders used a JCB digger and white Ford Ranger pick-up truck to steal money from the cash machine.

After several months of being closed, the branch is expected to reopen fully to the public on Wednesday January 31.

Remedial work is ongoing at the branches, including the replacement of the ATMs.

Mandy Beech, director of retail services at Nationwide, said: “We’re glad to see this branch reopening so soon after it was damaged.

“Our facilities teams and local contractors are working flat out to restore these branches and our teams are keen to get back in to start serving our customers once again.”

“Nationwide is still committed to the high street, and wherever we have a branch, we will still be there until at least 2026.”
