March Lions Club press officer, Lion James Martin, shares why the last two months have been busy for members

It has been a rather busy two months for March Lions Club.

We would first like to thank everyone who came out to support us and our friends at the Rotary Club of March taking Santa on Tour – in total we raised almost £875 for CAMSAR.

We also collected 85kg of food donations for March Food Bank.

We would also like to thank everyone who donated while Santa was at Tesco and Sainsbury’s.

This raised a further £900 for the club to allow us to continue to support local, national, and international causes into 2024.

Santa’s elves are already busy planning the 2024 tour!

On January 24, the club also presented a number of Young Leaders in Service awards to volunteers at YPM and 20Twenty Productions.

The award recognises the time young people give to their community through volunteering, whilst also developing life skills that they can continue to use as they progress to college, university, and into the world of work.

We also thank the staff at YPM and 20Twenty Productions for supporting us in collating the information for the award winners, and for arranging the presentations.

The club were also pleased to receive the news that two of the entries from March for the Lions International Peace Poster competition had placed first and second at the District Judging this year.

This was against entries from an area covering the majority of the East of England and East Midlands.

The theme for 2023-2024 was ‘Dare to Dream’. The first-place poster will now go on to the national competition, and we wish them the best of luck.

This worldwide competition has been running since 1988, set up by Lions Clubs International, winners are entered into larger heats, with the overall international winner receiving an award, and $5,000.

We have many events in the pipeline for 2024, so keep an eye out on our new Facebook Page, March Lions Club CIO, for these.

March Lions Club is a voluntary organisation raising money to support local and national charities through our Gala, Santa’s Sleigh and other events.

We now meet on the first Tuesday of the month at YPM.
