Chatteris firefighters are thanking the local community after they won The Fire Fighters Charity Bag It and Bank It competition for the third year in a row.

The competition challenges fire stations around the country to see who can raise the most donations of textiles to their clothing banks throughout January.

In Chatteris, more than four tonnes of textiles were donated at the yellow clothing bins at the fire station, which generated more than £900 for the charity.

All of that effort saw Chatteris firefighters win first place to complete a hat-trick of first places.

Firefighter Jack James, the station’s charity representative said: “Everyone at the station would like to thank the local community for their continued support and generosity year on year.

"The charity provides vital support to firefighters and their families across the UK.”

The crew was presented with their award by representatives from The Fire Fighters Charity at a recent drill night.

Across the UK, over £1,000 was raised for The Fire Fighters Charity in January, with nearly 1,000 stations taking part in the competition.
