Hundreds of eager shoppers queued to be the first inside a high street giant's new Huntingdon store.

The Range - which also has a shop in Peterborough - welcomed its first customers to the former Homebase in Stukeley Road this morning (Friday February 21).

The grand opening was marked with a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by the Mayor of Huntingdon Cllr Karl Brockett.

He said: "It is a great addition to the area that keeps the doors open and boosts business growth in our town."

The first 50 people in line received a goodie bag before they headed through the doors, and several lucky winners also took home prizes including a BBQ and drill.

Despite missing out on an initial freebie, Chloe Pauley and her sister Maddi had a go on the spin the wheel and won a £20 gift card each.

Having arrived at 8.30am, Chloe said: "The queue was already really long at that point."

She added that she and her sister were both impressed with the new store.

"We thought it was great and definitely something that Huntingdon needs," she said.

"Me and my mum regularly go to the Peterborough store so it’s nice to have one that's more local."

There was also a change to meet and greet The Range mascot.

CEO of CDS Superstores, trading as The Range, wilko and Homebase, Alex Simpkin said: “We’re thrilled to have welcomed so many people to our new Huntingdon location.

“It was amazing to see the community come together to celebrate and we’re proud to offer such a fantastic range of products and prizes to thank them for their support.”
