New trees that have been planted in a March park will be watered using an automatic system, the council has confirmed.
Residents had shared their concerns with Fenland District Council that trees planted at West End and in the new raised beds by the Iceland supermarket were not being watered.
High Streets Programme Manager, Matt Wright, said: "As part of the construction, an engineering solution has been installed within each tree pit for all planters and trees."
He added that "constructed beneath each planter and planting area, the solution is a water soak which includes an overflow into a large tank beneath Broad Street.

"These water soaks collect rainwater throughout the year and gradually release the water back to the plants and trees within the planters which means that no manual watering is required".
He also said that the system is designed to retain enough water to sustain trees even in dry periods of the year and is used commonly throughout the UK in public realm projects.
"This also ensures that we can keep ongoing maintenance costs down for the street as no labour is required to manually water the trees," he added.
"For all other planters throughout town, March In Bloom – a local voluntary organisation, manage planting and watering of the greenery."
