Visitors to a village pit and orchard are being warned to stay clear of wild birds, particularly ducks and geese by the parish council.
Manea Parish Council, which looks after Manea Pit in Park Road, has issued the advice following concerns over sick geese on the site and a suspected outbreak of bird flu.
A number of geese have been reported as either sick or dead, along with other birds around the popular water body.
Posting to the village Facebook page, the parish council said: "Following on from a post regarding two sick geese, the parish council has now been made aware of some more deceased birds which are still in the area at present.
"The council is in touch with DEFRA (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) as it falls to them and not the RSPCA or RSPB. DEFRA has already collected one of the birds for testing for avian flu (bird flu).
"Having spoken to them at length, their advice is that as long as users of this area do not handle or approach any dying or dead bird, wash your hands after visiting the area, and keep all dogs on leads, then there should be no issues."
The council was planning on seeking further advise from the Government body to see if it wants to collect any other dead birds for further tests, or whether they can be disposed of.
The post added: "In the meantime, they are being left where they died."
Anyone spotting a dead or sick bird is being asked to contact one of the parish councillors to let them know, and people are being asked to provide a What3Words location.
