Customers, volunteers, friends and members of the WI have created a stunning poppy display in the window of the Arthur Rank charity shop in March.

More than nine months ago, shop manager, Louise Frary, had the idea of crocheting red poppies for the window in time for Remembrance Sunday as the parade passes by the shop.

Supporters have been working for months, crocheting more than two thousand poppies to make up the beautiful display which dominates the window at 20 Broad Street in March.

Each poppy has been lovingly created and donated to the charity, which supports people in Cambridgeshire living with an advanced serious illness or other life-limiting condition and those who need end of life care.

Many people in the March area are aware of the Hospice in Cambridge and have friends and family who have been supported at the Alan Hudson Centre in Wisbech and in their own homes in the community, via the Hospice at Home team.

It costs the charity more than £14 million a year to run all of their services and the March shop is one of nine outlets across Cambridgeshire which helps to raise £5.9 million through retail, donations, fundraising activities, The Education and Conference Centre and Bistro.

Louise, who learnt to crochet so she could contribute to the display, explained: "We all wanted to do something great for the shop that was impactful for the local community and that we can build on year on year.

"It has been a wonderful way to bring the local community together to commemorate others and highlight our large stock of pre loved items.”
