March grandparents' cancer GoFundMe for Millie Butler

Millie Butler, 11, was diagnosed with primary intercranial sarcoma by doctors on her birthday in September last year.

Her grandparents Sue and Brian, from March, have launched a GoFundMe page in a bid to raise funds to help with treatment costs.

They are also planning on using the funds to help pay for Millie to visit her friend in New Zealand once she completes her chemotherapy.

"She has now got to have a year of treatment, including chemotherapy, radiotherapy and possibly proton therapy," Sue said.

"This is to make sure that the cancer does not come back, it could be genetic and could possibly mutate and grow back.

"It is hoped this treatment will cure her of this cancer, but it will make her very ill and she will lose her hair, which she is very upset."

The pair described Millie as "extremely brave", adding that despite the diagnosis, she is "coping quite well."

Recent scans revealed the schoolgirl is responding well to treatment with the tumour significantly reducing in size.

"She's had the tumour removed but they can't remove it all because it's on the brain. 

"Millie is responding well and the chemotherapy seems to be doing its job but it's making her very sick."

She added: "Despite this she's agreed to have additional fluids and tests for research purposes to help other people."

Sue said the diagnosis had "brought the family together" with numerous family members visiting Millie in Surrey. 

So far, more than £6,000 has been raised with the family hoping to raise £7,000.
