An update has been issued on the future of a discount retailer's remaining Cambridgeshire store.

The Original Factory Shop is the latest firm to have entered administration amid rising costs, fewer shoppers and increased staff costs.

Administrators from Interpath Advisory said the firm's 137 stores will continue to trade as normal while they assess options.

Taking to social media, the retailer's Whittlesey branch said it had "been getting a lot of questions" regarding its future.

It said that "while there is still a small slither of hope that we could be saved, we are preparing ourselves for the worst".

The store, which is located on High Causeway, Whittlesey, in Peterborough, has already begun a closing down sale.

In a statement it added: "If we carry on doing well you may find that the store will stay open longer to serve the town as it has proudly done for the past 17 years

"There is a wonderful team here that are still proudly doing their jobs with a smile, so please be kind.

"Many thanks for all the years of support."
