Hidden gem pub in Cambridgeshire with amazing meals

The Oliver Cromwell pub, on Wellington Street, St Ives, is nestled in a "characterful" Grade-II property near to the River Great Ouse. 

Its become a favourite of both locals and visitors for its fresh, seasonal menu and warm, friendly service.

On Trip Advisor, the Cambridgeshire pub has more than 150 'excellent'-rated reviews, earning praise for its service and value. 

Elsewhere, on Google Reviews, The Oliver Cromwell has a score of 4.5 out of 5 from more than 600 reviews. 

'Amazing food and service'

The Oliver Cromwell, renowned for its excellent food, was forced to close its kitchen in July 2024, but soon reopened. 

It was taken over by Tom Blestoe who transformed it into a "traditional English pub", creating an environment where "where everyone can feel welcome". 

The menu "celebrates the best of British pub fare, with a focus on "fresh, locally-sourced ingredients prepared entirely in house."

Guests can expect generous portions, seasonal specials and "a warm welcome waiting".

Its dishes are complimented by a "strong selection" of cask ales, making it a "hit with diners and drinkers alike, the pub boats on its website. 

It is unsurprising, then, that The Oliver Cromwell has received rave reviews with guests praising its "excellent lunch" and live music. 

One visitor said: "Amazing food and service. We had a sandwich and loaded fries. Perfect sized portions and delicious food.

"Staff really accommodating and friendly. Would definitely recommend."

Another added: "Good Sunday lunches are few and far between. But the Oliver Cromwell is a MUST. Everything fantastic. No more words other than. Epic."

"Really good lunch at this recently refurbished pub. Under new management with excellent staff. Also very reasonably priced. Will definitely return," another guest said.
