We tried the lunch menu at one of Peterborough’s newest Indian restaurants.
Over the past seven months, Lotus in Peterborough has built a reputation for being one of the city’s best new Indian restaurants – and, after visiting ourselves, it’s easy to see why.
Testing out the set lunch menu, we were impressed not only by the delicious food itself but the portion sizes.
Available from 12 noon to 3pm every day other than Monday, two courses costs £15 or you can have three for £18.

Onto the meals, and each dish that we tried was full of flavour; even the crisp and crunchy poppadoms were accompanied by a range of three dips: a creamy mint sauce, beetroot sauce with a light kick, and some tangy mango chutney.
As well as the light yet crispy onion bhajis for a starter, we were tempted by the Tandoori king prawns (which were offered on the main menu).
Chargrilled to perfection, you could really taste the tomato, honey and mustard oil that the latter had been marinated in.

While they had a little kick, they were not overpoweringly spicy.
Then, it was on to the mains: served on hot plates, the chicken tikka masala and chicken korma each had great ratios of meat to sauce, with the main ingredient just falling apart.
Alongside pilau rice, our sweet side of Peshwari naan bread had clearly been traditionally cooked because the air bubbles were still present.

While we didn’t try them on this occasion, Lotus also offers a range of special dishes which you would struggle to find outside of London.
It’s not just authentic flavours and a relaxed atmosphere being served up at Lotus, however.

On Sunday June 14, the restaurant will host its third live music night, from 6-10.30pm.
For the affordable price of £25 per person, guests will be treated to a performance from Bollywood duo SV Band as well as a three-course buffet.
With the previous two events of its kind having proved very popular, pre-booking is required.
