It's National Fish and Chip Day 2026 (June 5), so here are some of the best shops in Cambridgeshire to get one of the UK's most iconic meals.

1. Barney's Plaice, Huntingdon

Located on High Street in Huntingdon, Barney's Plaice offers a takeaway or dine-in experience.

It has an average of 4.5 stars on TripAdvisor, with more than 140 "excellent" reviews.

One reviewer wrote: "Best fish and Chips we’ve ever had!

"Food was piping hot, the fish was huge, beautifully cooked, with a lovely light batter.

"Well done Team Barneys."

Other users praise Barney's generous portion sizes and reasonably good price.

2. Petrou Bros, Chatteris

This shop run by brothers Peter and Mark Petrou won the Seafish Industry Authority UK title of Number One Fish and Chip Shop of the Year in 2006.

Their website claims "fish and chips runs in our family" as the brothers' parents also ran chippies in south east London.

The brothers say they use locally grown Maris Piper and Challenger potatoes to keep food miles as low as possible, and use locally milled flour in their batter.

The chippy has an impressive four star rating on TripAdvisor, with customers praising their varied menu and good hygiene standards.

3. Barry's Plaice, Fenstanton

An introduction to this shop on their Facebook page reads: "We take pride in serving the best traditional fish and chips, with every dish cooked to order for unbeatable freshness."

Barry's has nearly 30 "excellent" reviews on TripAdvisor.

One customer called the shop "a jewel in Fenstanton" whilst another wrote that they would definitely recommend it as it had "lovely food and friendly staff".

It is open throughout the week except Sundays and Mondays.

4. Codlicious, March

Codlicious off Station Road in March offers signature fish and chips as well as chicken options, pies and sausages.

They claim to be "proudly independent and family-run with a genuine love for traditional fish and chips".

The shop is highly recommended on Food Hub, with a 4.7 out of five rating and more than 600 five star reviews.

One customer wrote: "Excellent tasty food as usual, best in town."

5. Madeira Fish Shop, Ramsey

Madeira's in Ramsey offers reasonably priced fish and chips, kebabs and burgers, with a cod and chips costing £9.30.

It also has excellent reviews, with a "very good" 4.4 star rating on TripAdvisor.

One customer wrote: "Outstanding fish and chips.

"Chunky chips cooked just right and beautiful battered cod.

"Good old styled fish and chips and friendly customer service."

Another visitor claimed it had the best fish and chips they had had in decades.
