A Cambridgeshire sailing club is opening its doors and offering residents the chance to watch the August solar eclipse at a free event.
Grafham Water Sailing Club is opening its doors on Wednesday August 12 for the partial solar eclipse, which will be visible across the UK.
Cambridgeshire can expect to see around 90% of the sun be covered by the moon in this rare weather event.
Some countries including Greenland, Iceland and Spain will witness a total solar eclipse.
In a post to social media, Grafham Water Sailing Club said that their bar will be open from 6pm and a barbecue will be available for those that book in advance.
The event is free and visitors are invited to bring their own chairs and rugs.
A limited amount of special eclipse sunglasses can be purchased at £3 per pair from the Sailing Club Office.
According to government advice, watching the solar eclipse directly is dangerous as the sun appears dimmer than usual which makes it easier to look at directly.
Advice from the UK Health Security Agency reads: "The reduced brightness can override the body's natural reflex to look away, allowing intense sunlight to reach and damage the retina.
"This damage happens without causing any pain, so you may not realise harm is occurring until it's too late."
The two safe approaches for admiring the eclipse are to use specialist eclipse viewers, or indirect viewing methods.
