Thousands of sighthounds and their owners are set to take part in walks around the world on September 27 as the Great Global Greyhound Walk returns for 2026.
The event, themed "Mythical Mutts," aims to demonstrate that sighthounds make excellent pets, encouraging more adoptions.
The Great Global Greyhound Walk (GGGW) invites every sighthound and owner, regardless of group size, to join the worldwide celebration.
After a record-breaking 2025 walk, with 16,562 sighthounds participating across 659 walks in 47 countries, organisers aim for an even larger turnout in 2026.
First-time participants in 2025 included Bosnia & Herzegovina, Estonia, Luxembourg, Qatar, and Singapore.
The walk with the highest attendance last year was Barnsley, Yorkshire in the UK, with 572 sighthounds.
Organisers hope Barnsley will surpass this number in 2026.
Each walk must register on the GGGW website to be included in the global total.
Registered walks report their sighthound totals to the admin team, which then announces the global total.
Now a global event, the GGGW aims to raise awareness and celebrate these often misunderstood dogs.
The GGGW is organised by Greyhound Walks, a registered charity that promotes retired greyhounds as family pets.
All admin team members and walk organisers are volunteers.
