SEVEN thousand Fenland homes were left without water for nearly 18 hours after two mains burst in Whittlesey yesterday.
The two mains, one measuring 12in and the other 10in, burst where they join close to the A605 King’s Delph, Whittlesey, shorly before noon and cut the supply to homes in Whittlesey, Coates and Benwick.
Anglian Water technicians identified the location of the burst about an hour after the first report of water supplies being lost. They worked throughout the night and finally restored the supply at 5am today.
An Anglian Water spokesman said: “Repairing emergency bursts is our main job - we do it 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
“We are terribly sorry for everybody who was inconvenienced by this. We worked all day and through the night to make sure supplies were back on before sunrise.
