ANGLIAN Water warned tonight that motorists will be delayed and 80 homes will be without water when more mains are repaired in Whittlesey this weekend.

The burst mains came after a pipe burst almost two weeks ago near the A605, leaving 7,000 homes in Whittlesey, Benwick and Coates without water.

For the second weekend running traffic using the A605 will be affected.

Last week the road was closed all weekend while a main close to 122 Peterborough Road was repaired. A second leak close to that could not be repaired last week because Anglian Water would have needed to cut the supply to a lot of nearby homes.

This weekend, temporary traffic lights will be used on Saturday and Sunday while contractors repair the second leak. But from 6pm Sunday the A605 will be closed again for Anglian Water to complete road surface repairs following last week’s work.

An Anglian Water spokesman said: “We need to return the road to the way we found it and unfortunately the road will be closed while we do that. It will definitely be open as usual on Monday morning.”

Another leak will be repaired in Drybread Road on Sunday and about 80 homes in Drybread Road and Otago Road will lose their supply while this work is carried out.

The spokesman said: “Approximately 80 homes properties in the two roads will lose their water supply between 9am and 6pm but we are very much hoping it is not for that length of time.

“We were hoping to carry out this work on a weekday but there is a school nearby (Alderman Jacobs School) and if we did the school would have to close for the day. The Christmas holidays are fast approaching, but we want to get this repaired as quickly as we can.

“Our sincere apologies to all those who will be without water.”

Letters and cards were sent to residents who will be affected this morning.

Three-way traffic lights will be set up in Drybread Road and Otago Road while repairs are completed.
