Police responded to a 999 call last night after a man was seen swinging nunchuks – oriental hand weapons- near the town centre.
The weapons, or to give them their proper term nunchaku, were popularised by actor and martial artist Bruce Lee but are illegal in most countries in the world.
A police spokesman said: “We responded to a 999 call as a male was seen swinging a set of nunchaku around the park in Gaul Road.
“PC Smart located the male and investigated the incident and the nunchakus were seized. The male was dealt with by the way of a police caution for the offence.”
Under the law you are not entitled to use nunchaku in public except for demonstration purposes. They are considered an offensive weapon although they are legal to own.
