SHOUTS of 'ahoy me arties' rang around Park Lane Primary School on Friday when youngsters dressed up as pirates for the day.

"It was a barrel of laughs," said Sue Low, early years co-ordinator at the Whittlesey school.

The day brought to an end a couple of weeks of work involving pirates in literacy, maths, art and music lessons.

The early years pupils, aged between three and seven, dressed as pirates, along with teaching staff and assistants who work with children in that age range.

The pupils were split into three teams, with each team given a name sounding like that of a pirate ship - Black Dragon, Silver Shark and Purple Parrot.

The youngsters made pirate flags, pirate masks and took part in a treasure hunt where they had to solve clues to find hidden silver coins.
