LONG time readers of this diary will recall my passion and enthusiasm for the fate of Apple Crumble Cottage.

Of course Brakespeare is no architect, planner or designer so the merits of its respective planning applications over the years cannot be attested or otherwise.

But it's the quintessential English name, conjuring up a past long gone, that will ensure it's fate remains of interest.

The Parson Drove home is now in need of a Georgian style conservatory, I read, and must await its reckoning by Fenland Council.

The owners' application insists the layout shows "the only practical way it can be sited" which suggests to me storm clouds ahead.

But, hey, who I am to quibble for so far as I'm concerned the owners can walk on water, providing of course they don't tamper with the name!
