A flu jab for two...March couple find the perfect way to celebrate their Golden Wedding anniversary

A COUPLE celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary...with a doctor’s appointment to have their annual flu jabs.

Pat and Terry Searle had been due to have their injections at March Cornerstone Practice a couple of weeks before but were forced to find another appointment because it clashed with a holiday.

“When they suggested the 20th, I thought it would be fine and I didn’t even think about it being our anniversary at first,” Mrs Searle said.

“When I let everyone in my family know, they thought it was so funny that we were spending part of our anniversary getting flu jabs. However it is important, otherwise one thing leads to another and you can get ill.”

The pair met while working at electrical firm Morphy Richards in Kent when Mrs Searle, now 66, was just 15.

As she tried to throw sweets to her friends downstairs, they accidentally hit her future husband - causing him to run upstairs to see what was going on.

“He asked me out and since then we’ve never really been parted,” she said.

Mr Searle, now 72, was obviously very taken with his new beau - he proposed to her just two weeks after they had met as the pair got off a bus.

They tied the knot a year later and went on to have five children, moving to their current home in Wisbech Road, March 28 years ago.

“Many people at the time said we wouldn’t last two years but we have proved them wrong and are still going strong,” she said.

“It is about being committed to each other. Marriage is not just a piece of paper. It is about growing together and sharing.”
