The church became a host to vibrant and colourful displays based around book titles ranging from Harry Potter to autobiographies to gardening books to football themed and Animal Farm.

There were 28 displays from individuals and community groups with a coffee morning also arranged to help raise money for church funds.

The flower festival began in 1954 and was originally held in St Peters Rectory, now known as Welle Manor Hall.

It was such a success that it became a regular fixture in the Upwell calendar and the 2014 event, as in all previous years, proved to be a great success despite bad weather, said Ros Shorting.

“Upwell St Peters is a Grade 1 building and the fabric has had a large restoration programme of work carried out in 2013 from the beginning of 2014 the restoration has been internal.

“The Nave carpet has been replaced, the Chancel carpet has been removed and the tiles have been cleaned and sealed.

“The Chancel carpet has been refitted in the messy church corner for younger members,” said Mrs Shorting so all money raised always find a good home where it can be spent within the church.

The next event in the village is the School fayre on Sunday July 13 from 11-4 which will feature vintage and classic cars, a dog show and a variety of stalls and games.
