Thousands of pumpkins grown in the Fens are making their way into Sainsbury’s after the supermarket chain placed a massive order with a Wisbech farm.
Sainsbury’s say they expect to sell 1.5million pumpkins during the Halloween period and a large number of them have been provided by Oakley Farms of Outwell.
A store spokesman said: “Following a hot summer and an unusually mild September, the pumpkins were picked earlier than usual.
“This has resulted in a bumper yield.”
