THE lives of 450 hospital patients have been saved by two remarkable people whose dedication has been rewarded by the National Blood Service (NBS).

They were among 48 who were honoured at the Donor Awards Dinner Ceremony in Cambridge.

Blood donors, their families and NBS staff gathered, at Homerton College in recognition of the lifesaving actions of long-serving blood donors from across East Anglia.

Thirty-eight donors were honoured with an engraved crystal plate to mark 75 donations and 10 received crystal decanter awards for passing the 100 donation landmark.

Crystal plates were presented to Norma Green, of Meadowlands, March, and Richard Graham, of Church Walk, Chatteris.

Gareth Bell, NBS communications officer, said: "With each donation potentially saving up to three lives, each of the people who were receiving awards could lay claim to saving the lives of at least 225 people."
