WHITTLESEY Folk Club got off to a slow start when it met at the town's King's Head pub 40 years ago this month.
Five Peterborough folk singers, two enthusiasts from St Neots and one Whittlesey housewife turned up to enjoy the evening.
The audience was boosted by the landlord and landlady, along with their great Dane called King.
Mrs Eric Slote was the only Whittlesey person eager enough to brave the elements.
Two Peterborough brothers, Mike and John Herring, both members of the 400-strong Peterborough Club wanted to start the new club under the Eastern Midlands Folk Federation.
Thirty posters were put up in the town and, despite the disappointing turnout, the two brothers were determined to make a go of the new venture.
