Inspirational amputees from Isleham will set off on an amazing challenge in a bid to become the first group of amputees to climb Mount Snowdon.

The team – ranging in age from seven to 42 - hope to raise funds for charity Steel Bones to enable continuous support given to individuals and families that have suffered limb loss across the UK.

The challenge will take place on May 30 and see Matt Furze, 36, Jorja Furze, 12, Emma Joy-Staines, 33, Leigh Joy-Staines, 36, Teddy Joy-Staines, seven, Cheriee Wales, 38, Peter Wales, 42 and Jesse Wales, eight, take to the mount.

Heading up the challenge will be Paul Clark, who became an amputee just last year, and after having surgery in 2014 had a major bone infection, which resulted in the loss of a limb.

Leigh Joy-Staines, founder of Steel Bones UK, said: “There are around 5,000 amputations taking place in the UK every year leaving people in a very lonesome situation.

“Speaking as an amputee myself, I know how hard it can be to do normal, everyday tasks that so many people take for granted. This is why we are so proud of the families who are pushing the boundaries and climbing Mount Snowdon, in an effort to raise money for Steel Bones UK.”

Paul added: “Climbing Snowdon was a personal goal of mine before my amputation and I feel it is a great way to achieve my own personal ambition, whilst also raising funds for the charity that has helped me so much over the past few years.”

There will be 18 amputees from around the UK joining the team to take on the challenge, which will be sponsored by Pocket Rocket Marketing, who will be helping to publicise the event, Sieve Studio who will be filming the entire climb, and Creative Emporium who are supplying branded t-shirts and merchandise for the entire team.
