Hundreds of revellers were taken on a trip back in time as they gazed over drill displays, fly pasts and battle re-enactments at the Festival of the Forties and World War II show in March.
Festival goers were greeted with glorious sunshine for the three-day event which was staged off Knights End Road in the town on July 22, 23 and 24.
Oompah band Karl’s Bavarian Brass kicked off proceedings on Friday, before the main event on Saturday – the battle re-enactment and fly past.
War-time Spitfires flew through the skies of Fenland as actors recreated battles from the war on the ground, before Saturday’s spectacle was concluded with a big band dance, featuring all the hits from the 1940s played out by Alan Norris’ Big Band.
A surprise second flypast raced through the sky on Sunday, before those in attendance laced up their dancing shoes for the big Great British tea dance, 1940s style.
One of the festival’s organisers, Sally Page, said it was a big success.
“It was a fabulous weekend,” she said. “It’s a big site so you can’t really gauge how many people were there but the car park was absolutely rammed.
“The re-enactments were really good, and the second fly past was a real surprise.
“We’d like to thank everyone for their support and all the help of our team of volunteers, because we wouldn’t be able to put it on without them.
“We’d especially like to thank the Sea Cadets for their help in the car park and the British Legion Standard Bearers.”
