Rail enthusiasts took a nostalgic walk down memory lane when March railway station celebrated its 130th anniversary.
The station became a hive of activity when visitors took a step back to 1885 when the town first boasted train travel.
Adrian Sutterby chairman of the Friends of March Railway Society (FORMS) said: “What an excellent turnout. A big thank you for everyone that supported us and all the volunteers and groups to make it all possible.
“The group raised £545 which will help with the next stage of the March Railway station project.”
Alan Sharkey said it was an interesting day made all the more worthwhile when one lady spotted her dad in a picture and said it made her day.
The day included a 1940s display, model railways, prize draws and children’s games and the heritage rooms were also open for people to find out more.
Mayor, Councillor Rob Skoulding, said: “It was very well done, very clever and the waiting rooms were brilliant.
“It was good to see the old British rail livery colours of green and cream.”
Mr Sutterby, Chairman of FORMS, said: “For more than a century, the station has connected people to the capital and we’re delighted to host this event which will pay tribute to the past 130 years.”
Councillor Simon King, Fenland District Council’s Cabinet member responsible for transport, said: “It was at March station three years ago that we launched the Hereward Community Rail Partnership (CRP), with the support of Abellio Greater Anglia. That is a fine example of partnership between a local community and a rail company.
“So it’s great to be coming together again with the Friends to help celebrate the station’s rich history. It has played a vital part in the life of March.”
