VINTAGE and veteran bicycles will return to the streets of March this weekend when a cycle club holds its 25th anniversary rally.

Sunday will see about 80 people, all dressed in vintage costume, enjoy two rides around the town totalling eight miles.

Everyone taking part will be given a badge to mark the anniversary of March Veteran and Vintage Cycle Club, which was started by Margaret and Colin Bedford.

Mr Bedford, of Norwood Avenue in March, said: "We were members of the Peterborough club and in 1982 we decided to start our own group in March.

"We held a ride from the field in Station Road opposite my house to Elm and back."

About 65 people joined the ride that day, despite the pouring rain they were met with for most of the day.

But, come sun or rain, Sunday's ride will start at the FE Centre, in Station Road, at 10.30am and include visits to Panini's cafe on the market square and to March Museum.

A number of prizes are also up for grabs as part of the rally, including those for the best gentleman rider and the best costumed Penny Farthing rider. They will be presented back at the FE Centre at 4pm.

Static displays will be held at the FE Centre from 10-10.30am and from 4pm, and when cyclists visit Panini's and the museum.
