The A47 through the Fens re-opened this evening after being closed for much of the day following a crash in which two men died.
Described by a police officer as ‘horrendous’ this was the scene late this afternoon as the wreckage of an earlier fatal accident on the A47 was cleared away.
From what is known a lorry pulled out of its depot at Thorney Toll before colliding with a First X1 Excel service double decker making its way from Peterborough to Wisbech.
The bus driver and a passenger died at the scene – vast numbers of emergency workers helped free casualties, some with broken bones, and others with serious head injuries.
The road has been closed for most of the day.
