A jury could not reach a verdict at the trial of a March take-away owner accused of historic sex offences on a six year old.

Abu Sayeed, of Robingoodfellows Lane, is charged with six counts that are alleged to have happened 14 years ago, between June 2003 and April 2004 in Harpenden.

A jury rose on Thursday October 19 but by Tuesday 24 had still not come to a decision.

The prosecution team has seven days to review the case.

Sayeed, 44, is accused of indecently assaulting a female person aged six to seven years old by committing oral sex in two separate counts - both on her and with her.

He is also charged with inciting a child under the age of 16 to commit an act of gross indecency.

The remaining three charges relate to multiple offending, and allege that Sayeed committed each count on more than one occasion during the specified dates.

Sayeed appeared before Judge Jonathan Carroll at St Albans Crown Court, sitting in St Albans Magistrates’ Court.
