BORN-again Christian Leslie Smith has been ordered to take part in a domestic abuse programme with the probation service, after admitting he assaulted his wife during a row.Smith, 30, formerly of March, but now living in Chapelfield Road, Guyhirn, was also given a two-year community order by Fenland magistrates on Tuesday. At an earlier hearing, the court heard how Smith rolled home drunk, and after a few hours' sleep he argued with his wife Rebecca.Smith told his wife: "When I get you on your own you will be scared." He pulled her hair and hit a wall with a piece of wood. Mrs Smith had said she was unsure if she still loved her husband.Solicitor Amy Brown said Smith, a recovering heroin user, had little memory of the incident because of the drink he had consumed."He and his wife are born- again Christians and they have both attended prayer meetings," she said. "A reconciliation is hoped for. Because of their religion they do not believe in divorce."Prosecuting, John Goodier said Mrs Smith was adamant that the relationship was over.
