A BUSINESS support group, which in the past year has helped 2,000 individuals hoping to start their own businesses, is moving its head office to the Fens.

Up to 10 administrative and marketing and support staff employed by Cambridgeshire Business, the holding company of Cambridgeshire Enterprise Services and Cambridgeshire Business Services, are moving to the South Fens Business Park, at Chatteris.

The company is moving from Huntingdon but will retain existing offices in Cathedral Square, Peterborough, and St John's Innovation Centre, Cambridge, as well as a presence in Ely, Huntingdon and St Neots.

Cambridgeshire Business also announced the appointment of David Monks, chief executive of Huntingdonshire District Council, to the post of chairman and David Moir is promoted from enterprise services director to interim chief executive.

Professor Walter Herriot, managing director of St John's Innovation Centre, and a member of the Cambridgeshire Business Group board, said: "As a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting Cambridgeshire businesses, I am delighted to see that CB Group has a long and secure future ahead of it.

"The group has established a reputation for working effectively in helping local businesses grow and develop and local entrepreneurs get new businesses up and running on a firm foundation."

Mathew Johnson, a director, said the group had probably been best known for running Business Link in the county, which has now been regionalised and moved elsewhere but their key strengths remained in promoting business start-ups, co-ordinating Investors in People, and business support.

"CBS also remains strong, providing advice and support to local companies in such areas as business strategy, leadership and management, workforce development, and Human Resources," he said.

"It also arranges expert workshops and seminars and continues to offer a range of consultancy and outsourcing services tailored to the needs of smaller companies.
