CHRISTMAS Day was the 10th busiest day the ambulance service experienced in 2006 across Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk.

The number of life-threatening emergencies increased significantly, making it the second-busiest Christmas the East of England Ambulance Service Trust had ever experienced.

There were 620 emergency responses - a seven per cent increase on the same day last year.

Christmas Eve also proved to be very busy for the non-emergency patient transport service, clearing patients discharged from hospitals, enabling people to be at home with their families for Christmas.
