MARCH man Chris Forrest made a £350 nod and found himself the startled owner of a 1946 Pullman Limousine funeral car.
Chris, along with friends Tony Morton and John Coleman, was on a day trip to Castle Donington's racing car museum in 1980 and discovered a Sotheby's auction.
Chris was persuaded to join in when it came to Lot 99. It had an estimate of £700 so his two friends suggested Chris should put in a low bid and then drop out.
But when Chris, of Maple Grove, put in his bid of £350, a delighted auctioneer dropped the hammer and he found himself of the one-owner car which had been used in the funeral trade.
The trio paid for the car between them and restored it for re-sale.
