A hockey awards event for young sporting enthusiasts from Thomas Clarkson Academy and Peckover School was joined by a national sports star.
England Hockey Club’s Andrew Dale joined the event to present certificates to pupils from Thomas Clarkson Academy and Peckover School.
The presentation event came following a programme of coaching by Wisbech Town Hockey Club
The coaching was hailed a huge success with many young people showing a natural talent for a sport they hadn’t previously been exposed to while wanting to become club members.
A hockey club spokesman said: “Andy was incredibly generous with his time and expertise for us and spent the whole day coming to all coaching sessions and the presentation.
“All parents and children were invited, teachers, club members, and also present was Lauren Bremner (Fenland Active), Maria Walker (Clarion Housing) and Pearl Charalambos.
“A huge amount of work has gone into these programmes from several meetings with staff, to designing what’s to be delivered, securing funding from several sources, and equipment, arranging pitch time and organising volunteers.
“There are several members who have contributed time and expertise in both ventures and all deserve a mention, Charlie Baxter, Ryan Parker, Tom Jupp, Ciaran Lowe, Jason Mallett, Jamie Hallatt, Jane Peggs, Kim Speed, Megan Fey, Lisa Jackson, Andrea Eggleton, Lisa Lowe and last but not least Peckover lead coach Laura Overland, and finally a huge thanks to Lorraine Parker.
“Without the incredible amount of work Lorraine has put in behind the scenes and coaching in all sessions delivered, none of this would have been possible so thank you Lorraine and to all involved.
“With all that has been achieved from this, the club and its members should be incredibly proud.
“With the funding and equipment that has been secured it means that this initiative can be carried forward providing more invaluable coaching to young people in our community.”
