A PROPOSED annexe to a Fenland farm has been described by a council's chief planning officer as "tantamount to the erection of a separate dwelling."
Nigel Brown, development manager for Fenland District Council, castigated the application for the two-storey extension to Plantation Farm, Wimblington Road, Manea.
"The proposed annexe extension is unacceptable," Mr Brown ruled. He said the principle of annexed accommodation was to provide a degree of separation but also to use existing facilities within the main home.
"In this case, the level of accommodation suggests there would be no dependency on the host dwelling for the use of any facilities," he said.
The proposed annexe had a separate entrance, ground floor kitchen and living room, with two bedrooms and a bathroom.
The only access between the two properties would be a ground floor link 900 mm wide.
