The GER club in March was packed on Thursday (December 6) for the town’s annual Christmas Cracker senior citizen event held for elderly people ahead of the big day.
Spearheaded by the town council, the event has been held every December for more than 20 years and was organised to provide over 60s in our region with a free night of refreshments and entertainment.
This year’s entertainment came from local arts organisation 20Twenty Productions. Fifty two of the group’s youngsters performed three songs from the film The Greatest Showman.
Katherine Nightingale, 20Twenty director, said: “This was one of the best performances we’ve ever done. We just wanted to go out there and give it our all. All of the young people really enjoyed it.
“Something like this [the event] gives our young people the opportunity to perform in front of a different kind of audience and it gives us the chance to give back to the community.”
The Mayor of March, Councillor Jan French, described this year’s Christmas Cracker as an “absolutely fantastic night”. She, along with her daughter Kim French, helped organise the festive show with the council.
Attended by more than 190 over 60s, everyone enjoyed a night of entertainment along with mince pies, sausage rolls and a glass of sherry. “It was a night enjoyed by all,” added Cllr French.
