A brave widow’s drive to raise money in memory of her late husband is set to continue in next month.

Lindsey Rasberry has helped mastermind and oversee a number of events following Alan Rasberry’s death from pancreatic cancer on June 19 last year.

More than £10,000 has already been raised for a string of charities and now the fundraising push is set to continue with a dinner and dance night at the Dukes Head hotel, in King’s Lynn, on Saturday, June 28.

The evening – entitled ‘Another Night on The Raz!’ – will include a three-course dinner, auction, raffle, casino, Gold Cup horse-racing simulator, soul-singing duo and a disco. And the 47-year-old hopes to enjoy another great night in remembrance of her late husband.

Mrs Rasberry, who was with Alan for more than 10 years, said: “Last year a massive £12,000 was raised for charities like the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund in honour of my husband.

“Family, friends, colleagues and associates across West Norfolk, Ely and Cambridgeshire are continuing to add to the Alan Rasberry Charity Fund. Hopefully this night will raise even more money.”

Mr Rasberry, who lived in Lynn’s Mill Lane, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on May 13, 2013, and just four days later was told there was nothing that could be done. He died just weeks later at the age of 52.

While he was battling the illness, the first ‘night on the Raz’ was held at the The Lounge in Lynn. Mr Rasberry attended the event which saw more than £6,000 raised for good causes.

Since his sad death, further money has been donated thanks to a 52-mile triathlon – which was undertaken in full by his nephew Gavin Caney, who lives in Friday Bridge, and in part by his niece Kelly King – and a charity football match held in Terrington St Clement, the village where Mr Rasberry grew up.

“One of the things Alan said he wanted to do when he was ill was to create a legacy,” added Mrs Rasberry.

“In the speech that was read at his funeral, it was stated that he wanted people to meet up at least once a year and have a good night in his memory. If extra money can be raised that’s a bonus.

“One of Alan’s sayings was: ‘keep smiling’, and that is what we are all trying to do. Hopefully this will be another excellent evening full of good music and laughter, which is how Alan lived his life.”

All proceeds from the evening will be distributed to groups such as the Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s cancer charity fund. Mrs Rasberry’s long-term dream remains to have an end-of-life room built at the QEH, where her husband passed away, so families can enjoy some privacy during the last few days of their loved one’s life.

Tickets, which cost £45, are available from the Dukes Head or by calling 07894 863859 – the same number to phone if anyone wishes to donate towards the fundraising efforts or offer goods to be sold on the evening.
