More than 300 army cadets from Cambridgeshire have returned from Altcar, near Liverpool, after taking on a nine-day ‘cadet experience’.
Cadets, aged 12 to 18, from twenty eight detachments across the county, including March, Wisbech and Ely, took part in activities such as climbing, archery and firing on the range.
The ‘cadet experience’ also included living in a field for two nights, a confidence course, riding motorbikes, signal and first aid training and the obligatory drill.
Colonel Mark Knight MBE, commandant from Wisbech St Mary, said: “It was a cracking camp with many cadets trying new things for the first time, enjoying the challenge, making new friends and coping without mum.
“Welfare is an important aspect of the camp and that was under the watchful eye of Ryk Parkinson, Senior Padre from Leverington.”
Visitors to camp included:
Mr Richard Barnwell DL, Vice Lord Lieutentant of Cambridgeshire
Dr Andy Harter CBE, The High Sheriff of Cambridgeshire
Brigadier Tim Seal, Hon. Colonel of Cambridgeshire Army Cadet Force
Cllr Peter Human, The Mayor of Wisbech and Janet Tanfield, Mayoress of Wisbech
Dr Tim Drye, The Mayor of St Ives
