CHAIRMAN Bill Watkinson welcomed everyone to the meeting at the Working Men's Club, making special mention of secretary Joyce Oakey, who was back after a long stay in hospital. Help was requested with forthcoming collections in Chatteris an at March Sainsbury's store. ARC Christmas catalogues were distributed, orders should be passed to Enid Watkinson for forwarding to headquarters as there is no extra charge for postage on branch orders. The Emmanuel Ladies Choir will be performing on Thursday, November 16 at 7pm in aid of ARC and St John Ambulance. Members were reminded that subscriptions of £2.50 per person would be due at the AGM on November 21. The Morning WI invited members to join them at their coffee morning today (Friday) at the King Edward Centre. Help and donations of goods of all kinds were needed for the Autumn Fayre on Tuesday, October 17.

The planned speaker was unable to be present so Len Cudmore took his place at short notice. He gave a most interesting talk on his career, first in the Royal Navy, and then as a train driver for British Rail. He began as a cleaner, progressing through a long apprenticeship, before being allowed to drive himself. During this time he met many celebrities, and experienced good and bad events, and often had to make improvised repairs to keep the engines going.

Next meeting will be the Autumn Fayre at the WMC at 2.30pm. on Tuesday October 17.
