THE ARC has issued an urgent plea to gardeners. The branch stilll needs more gardens to run its 'Open Gardens' event this year. Some people are willing to open their gardens on Sunday June 25 or Sunday July 2 (2-6pm), but the organisers need more. Money from the £1 entry form which entitles the purchaser to view all the gardens open on that afternoon goes to ARC. However, garden owners may run draws or competitions and serve refreshments for their own charities. Joyce Oakey, the regular organiser, has been in hospital for may weeks and might still be there when the event takes place. She is retiring from her post as secretary of ARC in the autumn so the organisers hope to make this year's 'open gardens' a special tribute to her.
