The doors of a Soham supermarket will shut on Monday to undergo a major refit before re-opening under the ownership of ASDA.

Jonathan James of James Gravens’ Budgens store said: “After almost 11 years of trading our store in Clay Street, Soham, we are closing the doors for the final time on Monday May 5 at 6pm.”

Mr James said: “We have enjoyed operating the store and serving the local people over the years and feel confident that ASDA will continue the community work that we have undertaken in Soham.

“In particular, we have enjoyed being involved in a wide range of community activities and events – some of which will stay in our hearts for a long time.”

Mr James said: “ASDA coming to the town meets the desire of the local people for one of the big four supermarkets to operate in Soham.

“By being located in our store, and therefore the town centre, it is in line with the Soham Masterplan and will undoubtedly continue to provide the much needed footfall for the other businesses in the High Street”

He added: “Our store team have been fantastic across the years and we would like to thank them for their commitment, enthusiasm and team spirit and we wish them every success for the future with their new employer.”
