AROUND 10,000 miles separate March Lions and the club it’s twinned with but that didn’t stop two Australian members paying a visit to Fenland.
Ian and Pam Dewar, members of Mitcham Lions Club in Victoria, Australia, paid a visit to March Lions Club last month. The two groups have been twinned since Trevor and Wendy Stockbridge visited Australia in 2006.
Despite being half a world away March and Mitcham have exchanged regular reports and various fundraising ideas since that visit. March Lions even donated �1,500 to the Australian group after the massive bush fires in Victoria in 2007.
While Mr and Ms Dewar were in March they enjoyed a new experience of a narrow boat trip with Trevor and Pat Quince and also met members of Wisbech Lions club at a fish and chip supper.
The pair from Down Under were also interviewed by BBC Radio Cambridgeshire star Johnny Dee before presenting an unexpected cheque to March Lions for �600 to help the group’s funding for the Ugandan Orphanage,
