AROUND 10,000 miles separate March Lions and the club it’s twinned with but that didn’t stop two Australian members paying a visit to Fenland.

Ian and Pam Dewar, members of Mitcham Lions Club in Victoria, Australia, paid a visit to March Lions Club last month. The two groups have been twinned since Trevor and Wendy Stockbridge visited Australia in 2006.

Despite being half a world away March and Mitcham have exchanged regular reports and various fundraising ideas since that visit. March Lions even donated 1,500 to the Australian group after the massive bush fires in Victoria in 2007.

While Mr and Ms Dewar were in March they enjoyed a new experience of a narrow boat trip with Trevor and Pat Quince and also met members of Wisbech Lions club at a fish and chip supper.

The pair from Down Under were also interviewed by BBC Radio Cambridgeshire star Johnny Dee before presenting an unexpected cheque to March Lions for 600 to help the group’s funding for the Ugandan Orphanage,
